My Professional Background - Once upon a time, I wanted to be a motivational speaker. Actually, I was a professional motivational speaker for about 5 years.:
Celebrate Stupidity Giveaway, Toaster

You know when you’re shopping on Amazon.com, and you accidentally buy two of something? And you don’t even realize it? And all of a sudden the UPS man shows up at your house with TWO 4-slice toasters?

So, I decided I would give away the extra toaster to one of my fantastic readers as a way to celebrate my own stupidity. On President’s Day. That is merely a coincidence, friends. But it still makes me laugh.

We had our previous toaster for 7 years, and it no longer cooked evenly. So, I chose another one from Amazon that had great ratings and a good price (no piece of bread is fancy enough for a $300 toaster).

Here’s a link to the Waring Professional Cool Touch Toaster I chose (in black).

I’m pretty stoked about all the toast my husband is going to make me while simultaneously cooking me eggs and bacon and delivering it to me in bed with my coffee.

(That’s called subliminal messaging.)

Leave a comment below and tell me about the dumbest thing you’ve done recently. And I’ll randomly choose one of you to win this brand new, 4-slice toaster! I’ll announce the winner on Thursday, so I’ll close out the entries at midnight CST on Wednesday. Simple as that.

It’s like The Price is Right up in here! Except the price was wrong…actually double what it should have been. And I should have noticed that before I placed the order.

Fine print:  This giveaway is sponsored by “Katy in a Corner Shopping on Amazon when She Should Be Sleeping.” One entry per person, please.

First off: Love your posts. Love your blog. Love YOU!
Second: As a mommy of two (under the age of 3) I do a LOT of dumb things. Daily. But the dumbest here recently would be this past Sunday morning. My two year old woke up uncharacteristically early. I’m not sure how. My husband was trying to get out the door about 6:30am and he is usually so quiet and considerate to the rest of the household still in deep sleep. But I realized after the door was quietly shut behind him that beckham was up and was up for the day 🙂 I decided a shower would put me in a better mood and would give me energy to tackle the day ahead! After my shower, I went about our normal morning routine (except this time focusing on an energetic two year old while my 1 year old was still fast asleep) Okay. Fast forward a couple of hours. My little girl wakes up and I feed HER breakfast and then clean up the house a bit while the kids play. I then realized I should get myself ready for the day, so while Beckham watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, I took Marki Kate in the bathroom with me while I could take a shower……..as I reached for the shampoo I thought “I feel like I JUST did this….”
Yeah. Took two showers within a couple hours of each other. And took me several minutes to realize it.
Definitely dumb. But I have to say I’m impressed that I was able to enjoy my one daily pleasure that I relish for all it’s worth, TWICE in one day. It was rather nice 🙂
To come out to some toast already made would have made it almost like a vacation. Well….4 pieces of toast that is instead of the normal 2 that are toasted in my glorious cheap toaster 😉

@Katie mahaffey Two showers. Two toasters. If bad things come in threes, then stupid things must come in twos. 🙂 Thanks for the sweet comments, Katie!

I do so many dumb things on any given day, it’s hard to choose just one so I’ll just go with the most recent.  My 5 year old had her arts & crafts box out while I was working (in the same room).  Her 3 year old brother couldn’t believe the good luck that was bestowed upon him: Mommy wasn’t paying attention and the magical, safety scissors were calling his name from the open, unmanned arts & crafts box.  Coincidentally, his 15 month old baby brother’s curly mullet was begging for a hair cut.  So away the 3 year old chopped.  And chopped.  And chopped.Yep, this all happened while I was in the same room.  This is parenting at it’s finest.

I bought a dress pattern I already have. I bought them both on line but from separate companies. Yeesh! Glad I’m not alone in this – LOL!

I have two kids under 2, so I do a lot of really stupid things…but a few weeks ago I did a big grocery shopping trip. I didn’t get home until late, and the kids were crabby, etc. So I quickly went through the bags and put away just the perishable items…planning to put the canned goods away the next morning. The next morning, I discovered three cans of frozen orange juice in with the canned goods that had thawed, soaked my cloth grocery bag and part of a fruit snack box. Now I try to go through each bag thoroughly…even if it’s late and I’m tired. Hope I win…we have a pretty sad little toaster 😉 Love your blog…from one Katy with a “y” to another.

I buy music on amazon on a daily basis. But can’t seem to remember from day to day what songs I bought already. I currently have about $30 in music I purchased twice! =(

Let’s see, I am sure that I do a lot of stupid things, but one that comes to mind is when I went to the pet store to buy dog food, and got so preoccupied with other things that I almost left the store without buying the dog food. I remembered at the check out counter, and had to run back and get the one thing I went to the store for. Well, at least my husband was amused.

I was so proud of myself last week for planning to cook and wonderful homemade dinner – it happens rarely in my house these days. I loaded the crock pot and went off to work. When we got home at 4pm, I didn’t smell anything wonderful when I opened the door to the house. I found out, it really helps to turn the crock pot ON if you actually want to cook something…Geesh!

Oh, it never fails when I order something on Amazon.com that I mess something up.!  Glad to know I’m not the only one :).  Let us know if your “subliminal message” worked!  That way I can try it, too.  🙂

We purchased a new home in November and I made a huge deal about my 4 year old having a chalkboard painted on her wall. It’s February now and I still haven’t remembered to buy her any chalk. Every time I go to the store, I forget! Even if it’s on my list. Oi!

You know my world is CRAZY and I constantly do “stupid” things~
I have decided to join the “Fresh 20”  to help with meal planning since I usually don’t think about “What’s for dinner?” until “It’s time for dinner”. Well, they are an amazing business and I love it. They send you the meals for the week, the grocery list (20 Fresh) items to get you in and out of the grocery store in 20 minutes! It really works, if you’re not a COMPLETELY distracted Mommy like me~ Like I said, “I love it” I’ve only been doing it about a month or so, and here is where the STUPIDITY comes in! I OPENED and PRINTED the recipes for this week, went to the grocery and SHOPPED. BROUGHT home the items. PUT them away. Only to find out, I had ALREADY used these recipes during my SECOND week on the plan.  It DIDN”T occur to me while at the commissary at all that I had ALREADY cooked these meals for my family until I was KNEE DEEP into MONDAY”S meal. ! Now the trick, try to be CREATIVE and change up the recipes not to have REPEATS the rest of this week!
    This was fun Katy!

@elephtluvr Tell you what, Judi. How about I come over to your house for dinner every night for…I don’t know, a month or two, and I’ll decide if I like this Fresh 20 thing? We’ll be there tomorrow night. How’s 5:30 p.m.? We like to eat early. Also, I like a nice cup of decaf after dinner. But not Starbucks. Because it’s not really decaf. I’ll email you the rest of my food preferences. It’s a pretty long list. 🙂

Well, my young son was sick with pink eye and very congested so I was giving him medicated drops for his eyes and saline drops for his nose. I was of course sleep deprived with a sick baby and found myself one morning putting the saline drops in his eye instead of his nose! He was just laying there none the wiser.  Luckily, I wasn’t putting anything harmful in his eyes, but I of course felt horrible for making the mistake and am more careful now.

Ben and I were at the airport a few weekends ago. I thought for sure he was right beside me as we got through security. I started re-dressing myself – quickly putting my shoes, belt, etc back on. We are extremely competitive, so as I’m putting my stuff back on, I’m singing “I’m putting my stuff on faster than you, I’m putting my stuff on faster than you.” Looked over to the person standing directly beside me – it was NOT Ben. Poor guy who wasn’t my husband, probably thought I was a weirdo. HAHA

This is awesome! Did I ever tell you about the time I bumped into someone, apologized, and realized it was myself in a mirror? Kristen, we just need a third stooge to be a full set, I think.

I’m gonna go with Kelley on this one. Was cooking supper the other night waiting forever for the water to boil for macaroni. How long does it take?!?! Turns out, not so long once you turn the eye on. You do what you can to get by with little ones! 🙂
